DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD COMPARISON ANALYSIS

My double page spread is similar to NME as they both use black and white images and then a main image which is in colour. Even though it is a band that features in NME it is still the same concept of having the main singer in colour. On both double pages there is a stand first, a dropped cap and a by line which are the codes and conventions of a double page spread. Also the interview is in columns so the page looks blocked and is easy to read for the audience. On both pages there are grey boxes which show more information for the audience about the star for example about the album they both have out which gives the audience an insight into the band/artist just in case they don't know who they are or if they want to listen to them.
The differences between the double page spreads is that the name of my cover star is at the top of the page instead of over the main image but they are both bold and stand out from the rest of the writing to show that they are the name of the stars. Also I put my double page spread I put the masthead of the magazine at the top of the page to continue with the house style and so the audience can recognise it. On my double page spread I decided to put the stars twitter account on it at the end to show audience participation as the audience can follow them on twitter and find out more about them as more people are likely to have twitter than any other social networking site.

CONTENTS PAGE COMPARISON ANALYSIS

My contents page is similar to NME because at the top of both pages it has the masthead of the magazine so it continues with the house style of the magazine so it is recognisable throughout the whole magazine. After the masthead they both have a heading after it to show it is a contents page. All of this is in bold so it is clear for the audience to see and to show them that this page is a contents page. NME is different from mine as it has a 'band index' which shows the audience different bands that will be in the magazine, I decided instead to include it this in my features as the bands that were on the front cover will have a page each in the magazine. Which also shows how the contents pages and the front covers link to each other. Both contents have subheadings for each type of feature to break down the text and to make the page look blocked so it is easier to read for the audience. On NME they have one main image that is the focus whereas for my contents page I decided to use different images to give the audience a variety of images to look at so if one image doesn't appeal to them there is alternatives. On my contents page I decided to put an editors letter because this shows the editor communicating to the audience to make them feel more comfortable and to show the magazine is for their entertainment. Both contents pages have a subscribe box and a image of the front cover of the magazine to show that everything links and to show audience participation because the audience can get involved with the magazine for the latest information about the magazine.

FRONT COVER COMPARISON ANALYSIS

My magazine front cover is similar to a NME front cover because both of the mastheads are at the top left hand corner and are both in bold writing and the masthead on my front cover is in bold so therefore the audience will recognise this as the name of the magazine. They are also both 3 letters that stand for something which makes it easier to read and more memorable for the audience. My cover is different because I decided to put the meaning of the masthead underneath so the audience knew the clear link between the meaning and the genre of the music within the magazine. My magazine is different from NME because my main image is only one cover star rather than a band but they are both placed in the centre of the page so the audiences attention goes straight to them. The headline and subheading are both placed in the same place on the front cover, however on my magazine I decided to use a pull quote from interview which appeals to the audience because it gives them a taster of what will be inside the magazine. Also both magazines have banners at the bottom of the magazine to show the extras that the magazine includes which are all bands to show the focus of the magazine is music based. Both magazines show a specific house style which keeps the professional look on the magazine so there aren't too many colours on the page that don't fit the theme of the magazine on that issue. On my magazine I decided to put social networking sites on the cover to show audience participation as the audience are likely to use these sites so therefore it is easy access for them to keep updated with my magazine. Which is also why I put the website of the magazine above the barcode so it is easy to see and also it shows a symbiotic relationship between the print and online version.
